Running a chainsaw is one of the most dangerous tools out there. With this entry-level course developed by Workplace Safety North, you will acquire the skills to deal with a variety of hazardous sawing conditions, learn about chainsaw sharpening and maintenance, safe chainsaw handling, felling, limbing and bucking. This is an MOL recognized course.

For this class, the instructor comes to you. Applicant is required to provide a suitable place for the course to be taught such as an office or a large room and must have wifi. For the field practice, we require a woodlot so that a few trees can be felled and cutting techniques can be shown.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT :
- Forestry headset (hardhat, ear muffs, face screen)
- CSA-Approved safety glasses (with side shields)
- Chainsaw gloves/or leather gloves
- Chainsaw pants/chaps
- CSA-approved protective footwear
- Reflective vest (or similar high-visibility garb)
- Reflective vest (or similar high-visibility garb)
CHAINSAW :
- Running chainsaw with all the approved safety features
- For field session, participants will require chain oil and mixed gas as per the owner's
SHARPENING & MAINTENANCE TOOLS :
- Combination tool
- Correct size round file with handle
- Filing guide
- Depth gauge tool
- Flat file with handle
- Small screwdriver
- Chainsaw grease gun, rag
- Spark plug gap tool, wire brush, emery paper
- Chain owner's manual
- Wedges
FELLING AIDS :
- Axe (with sheath)
- Instructor will have some equipment available if the participant does not have everything listed.
